3D Design Process to Final Outcome - Making Corset and Skirt
Here, I want to share about my process how to make the corset.
Firstly, I started with buying a pattern on Etsy. Then, when I received the PDF, I downloaded the file, and I printed in. Moreover, I cut the pattern on black cotton fabric after I measured my size that needed to make the corset; bust, waist, and hips. This, black fabric was for inside the corset.
P. S. I got the fabric in Vijay Patel, contour fashion building.
Then, I cut the other cotton fabrics with the colours that I wanted, which is pink and white. I bought it at Material Magic in city centre. Here, the picture is shout out to Aleksandra who took it. In the picture, I was pinning the fabrics after I cut it all. I pinned all the fabric because I want to see as rough draft before I sew all the fabrics.
Here, I already sewed some, but before I sewed mark where I wanted to sew with a white chalk. I created lining.
After I sewed all I need to sew, I added the bow for the straps, I added the bonning into the gap that I created for the bone, and the eyelets for the back of the corset. Then, I finalised the bottom of the corset, which means I sewed again after I cut the bottom the corset to make it tidier and nicer.
Moreover, I added flowers that I bought at The Works and I added lace at the bottom to make prettier for the corset.
This is the example of the tutorial that I got from Etsy too including the pattern.
This is the skirt final outcome, P. S. I forgot to take a picture when I made it because I was really into it with measuring and sewing it. However, this is the result for the skirt.
Reflection:
I like how the corset and skirt turned out after facing some challenges. The challenges I faced were; firstly, I did not know how to cut the pattern, but I tried to cut it, and if I failed to cut, I would do it again. At least I tried first. However, it turned out fine. Then, the sewing machine sometimes was kind of mad, so it took much time for me to finish the corset. Next, for the skirt, I wrongly measured, but it turned out I made the asymmetrical skirt with asymmetrical blue and white tulle, and it was better than the usual skirt - it gave the creative side from the mistake to the uncommon idea. Those are the challenges that I faced while making the corset and the skirt. Besides, I like the corset because the colour I planned is pastel and I could get it. Then, I like the florals in the corset. It correlates with the rest of the collection. And, I like the corset itself because this is the first time I have made a corset, and I could make it well. Subsequently, I liked how it turned out because I could create the skirt from the usual skirt (the plan) to the uncommon skirt (asymmetrical), and I added the blue tulle as a drape to support the asymmetrical look. Then, I like the pearl beads and the flowers; they give a sweet and girly mood. For the skirt, I made a mistake when the process began: I was too involved and forgot to take the shot. Overall, I enjoyed making this 3D design and tried something I had never experienced before.
For this mock up, I used cotton and tulle, not organic cotton and eco-friendly tulle; if I want to sell it to the market, I will make sure the materials are sustainable because to sell it in the market will be produced in larger amounts. If I used unsustainable materials, the environment would be affected because the fabrics are unhealthy.
