Welcome Post - Term 2

Hello, welcome to my blog again!! Jesslyn is here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope you have remembered who I am, but you are lucky; I will introduce myself again.

Hi, I am Jesslyn Ciam. I am Indonesian. I am a student in De Montfort International College. Currently, I am taking Art and Design Foundation to prepare for my first year in university. The major that I will study at the university is Fashion Design. Why did I choose fashion design as my major rather than the other major? Honestly, I had a lot of options other than fashion design, like astronomy, film/media, design communication and visual, creative writing, engineering, and more. However, fashion design has always been my dream major since I was in primary school. So, I want to fight to become a fashion designer.

What did you do during the winter break? I watched a lot of films and TV Series, drew, coloured using watercolour, and slept. Let's break down one by one. Firstly, I want to discuss the movies and TV series I enjoyed during the break. I watched Loki season 2, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds (I watched this film at the cinema with my friends), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, When I Fly Towards You (Chinese Drama), and more. Secondly, I drew many things, such as fashion illustrations, food illustrations, buildings, etc. After I drew, I coloured using watercolour to hone my skills. Moreover, I rested a lot during the break to return my energy for the spring term.

This new term, my goal, especially for Art and Design, is to get a good grade and improve myself to become a better student. I want to achieve new skills and experience new things to add knowledge and prepare for uni.

I found the artist that inspired me during the break; Marta Spendowska. She made many beautiful illustration work using watercolour. I like her technique for the watercolour, how she can manage her colour pallete to make an interesting artwork. I like how she chose the bright colour to make the illustration looks fresh.

Camila Gray, she also created a fantastic work for food illustration. I like her muted colour. Even though this is not a watercolour illustration but I like how she made the semi-realistic food illustration. The most that I like from her artwork in the below is I like how she can make the kitchen towel pattern looks so realistic.

Moreover, I found a magnificent fashion illustrator, Elly Azizian. She made her artwork using pencil colour. That I like from her work is her thick outline and the detail of the dress. In my artworks, instead of using pencil colour, I used fine ink for the outline and watercolour to interpret the colour of the clothes design.

  1. Good you have provided a lot of information. Can you post some images of the work you have been making over the holidays instead of last term's work?
