The Trends for Spring/Summer 2024 - Research

    Here, I will research my fashion designs' spring/summer 2024 collection trends. I will make a collection for spring/summer; this research will help me to give a picture of what kind of design I need to make. Also, my main focus for my design collection is the corsetry, but the trend will help me create the overall designs. Moreover, I might use these trends for my designs.

    Smell The Rose

    These designs focus on a specific floral type, which is the rose. The colours that designers use are variants and as well as the designs, but in all the designs, the main focus for the clothes is the rose. Why did the designer bring up the rose designs as a trend? Guevara (2023) mentions that in the present era, the hyper-femininity of womenswear is at its peak, for instance, 'coquette', 'school girl', and 'ballet core.' These aesthetics are popular on TikTok, and the centre stage of fashion trends is taken by TikTok. This style is one of the trends that can be pleasing to the eye for women.

    Short Shorts

    For spring/summer 2024, the designers are introducing shorts as the trend amidst a renewed interest in craftsmanship. Also, the designers agree that this season needs to popularise shorts because if we look back to the post-pandemic era, they rarely made shorts (Nast, 2023b). They focus on making pants, including leggings, sweatpants, and more, so they feel this season needs to bring back the shorts despite '90s nostalgia (Nast, 2023b). Nast (2023b) mentions that women's shorts are becoming popular on TikTok and men's fashion shows. According to Nast (2023b), designers such as Emporio Armani and Prada have adapted the short shorts style in Milan fashion shows. Also, menswear Hermès's designer, Véronique Nichanian, acclaimed the style. 

    High-rise Trousers

High-rise Trousers

        The next trend I like to use for my design is 'High-rise Trousers.' The trousers have the opposite style of 'Smell the Rose' because they depict more masculinity, and the rose's style provides a hyper-femininity. Nevertheless, the trousers aim for leg-lengthening; the illusion of extra length is formed by the trousers that fall onto the floor and high waistbands (Spedding, 2023). According to Spedding (2023), Loewe's designer, Jonathan Anderson, designed high-waisted trousers that can be integrated with a corset. Also, the designers said that high-rise trousers are one of the most fashionable styling techniques that can easily make the outfit seem more outstanding and become the focal point (Spedding, 2023).

    Transparent Skirt

    The transparent skirt trend helps to show the bodily silhouette of the person who wears the dress. Klerk (2024) mentions that this trend differs from the naked dressing trend in 2023: "...the sheer skirt really can be worn in a demure fashion." Also, this sheer skirt will look suitable for day or night wear (Nast, 2023).

    Corsetry

    Subsequently, spring/summer 2024 also brings up the corset trend again, but to differ from the trends before, the designers are reinterpreting Victoria-era styles with corset tops, where the detail of the corset is lace-up (Sitton, 2023). Likewise, Ralph Lauren makes corseted vests, while Collina Strada focuses on corseted bodices (Sitton, 2023). Sitton (2023) mentions that Christian Siriano made a corset that can be worn by men or women models; the corset they made is sculpted by the lace-up satin corset. Moreover, the 'core' trends are popular in this present era, such as cottage, 'coquette', ballet, and renaissance; so the corset is now brought back to the trends, but also the corset has already been famous for garments for ages and will continue (Sitton, 2023).
